Straight Talk about the playwriting program: Emerging writers can often get stuck in the limbo of ‘play development.’ Readings and workshops are helpful, but it’s in production where the playwright can really stretch their muscles. The Hangar is deeply committed to meeting new writers and giving them the chance to see their work produced in the Wedge. Lab Company playwrights are then invited to submit future plays to the Hangar; in fact, Lab Company playwrights are the exception to our mainstage submission policy. The Hangar has produced three mainstage plays by former Lab Company playwrights. Former Hangar Theatre Lab Company playwrights include Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Kenny Finkle, Betty Shamieh and Kate Walat. Back
